Terms of Service
Last updated September 4, 2026
The rules for using S.M.A, what we promise, and what we do not.
In short
- Your keys live in your browser. Lose them and the rooms are gone, permanently.
- Anonymity is not a shield for abuse, and we will act on reports.
- A superchat is paid directly to the room owner. We cannot refund or reverse it.
- Fees paid to us unlock a feature and are not refundable once unlocked.
- You must be 13 or older.
- The service is provided as it is, with no guarantee of delivery or uptime.
This agreement
These terms cover your use of S.M.A ("Send Messages Anonymously") at sma.et and its related subdomains. By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Where these terms mention "we", that means the independent developer who runs S.M.A, reachable at robelmezemir@gmail.com.
What the service is
S.M.A gives you a room with a shareable link. Anyone holding that link can send you a message without identifying themselves. Messages are encrypted in the sender's browser so that only the holder of the room's private key can read them.
A room is controlled by whoever holds its private key, which is stored in your browser. An account is optional, is never required, and does not grant control of a room by itself.
Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to online services or for consenting to the handling of your data, you must meet that age instead. Do not use S.M.A if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.
Your keys are your responsibility
We do not hold your private keys and we cannot recover them. If you clear your browser data, lose your device, or forget the passphrase protecting a backup, every room tied to those keys becomes permanently inaccessible. No support request can undo that, because there is nothing on our side to recover from.
Back up your identities if they matter to you. The app offers both a downloadable backup file and an encrypted sync to your account, and both are protected by a passphrase you choose.
Acceptable use
Do not use S.M.A to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, bully or abuse anyone;
- send sexual content involving minors, or any other unlawful material;
- share someone's private information without their consent;
- impersonate another person in a way intended to deceive;
- send spam, or flood, overload, probe or attempt to break the service;
- attempt to identify anonymous senders, whether by attacking the service, exploiting a flaw, or correlating information from it;
- circumvent a room's own limits, including its pause state, message caps or rate limits;
- submit a payment receipt that is not yours, or that you have already used, or otherwise try to obtain a paid feature without paying for it.
Anonymity here is a property of the software, not a promise of impunity. Where we become aware of misuse we may remove content and block access, and we will cooperate with lawful requests from competent authorities.
Reporting abuse
If you are receiving something abusive, you can pause your room immediately in its settings, which stops anything new arriving, and you can stop sharing the link. To report content to us, email robelmezemir@gmail.com with the room involved and what you are reporting.
Be aware of what we can and cannot do. We cannot read message contents, so we may need you to tell us what was sent. We can remove messages and block access. We generally cannot tell you who sent something, because the service is built so that we do not know.
If you run a room
Each room can be paused, can have images or voice notes switched off, can cap message length, and can limit how many messages it accepts over a period. A profanity filter is available for typed text.
These tools are provided as they are. None of them guarantees you will not receive something you did not want, and the profanity filter in particular is a courtesy that a determined sender can bypass. If a room is being used to abuse you, pause it or stop sharing the link.
What you publish from a room is your responsibility, including the room title, any payout details, and any webhook address you point it at.
Payments, fees and refunds
No money passes through S.M.A. You transfer funds in your own banking or wallet app and then paste the receipt so it can be verified with the bank. We are a verifier, not a payment processor, and we never hold your funds.
- Fees paid to us, such as switching on superchats for a room or buying a room cosmetic, are for access to that feature. Once the feature is unlocked the fee is not refundable.
- A superchat is paid directly to the room owner, using the payout details that owner published. We only confirm the transfer happened. We are not a party to it, we do not hold the money, and we can neither reverse it nor arrange a refund. Any dispute about a superchat is between the sender and the room owner.
- Each receipt can be used once. Attempting to reuse one will be refused.
- Verification can fail for reasons outside our control, for example if a bank is unreachable or a receipt cannot be read. If a payment cannot be verified, the feature is not granted. Where verification is unavailable rather than refused, the app will say so and you can try again.
- Prices may change. A change never applies retroactively to something you have already unlocked.
- Room owners are responsible for the accuracy of their own payout details, and for any tax or reporting obligations on money they receive. Publishing wrong details means senders may pay the wrong account, and we cannot recover that.
Paying never requires an account, and buying something does not change who controls a room.
Your content
What you send stays yours. We claim no ownership of it. You grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store, transmit and display your content to the people it is addressed to. For encrypted content that permission is largely academic, since we cannot read it.
You are responsible for what you send, and for having the right to send it.
Suspension and ending use
You can stop using S.M.A whenever you like, by pausing a room, deleting your local identities, or simply not returning. We may suspend or remove access to a room, or remove content, where we believe these terms have been broken or where we are required to.
We may also change or discontinue features, including paid ones. If we withdraw a paid feature you have already unlocked, contact us.
Availability and disclaimers
The service is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. In particular we do not promise that messages will be delivered, that they will be retained, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that it will be free of faults.
Do not rely on S.M.A as your only copy of anything important, and do not use it where failure to deliver a message would cause harm.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, including lost data, lost access to rooms, lost messages, or money sent to the wrong account. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Software licence
The S.M.A software is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3.0 only. That licence covers the software itself. It does not grant rights to the S.M.A name, to this hosted service, or to any data held in it, and these terms govern your use of the hosted service rather than your rights in the code.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, where the service is operated, and disputes fall to the courts there. If you use S.M.A as a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove protections you have under the mandatory law of your own country.
General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the service changes hands, on the same terms.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms. If a change is significant we will say so rather than quietly editing the text.
